Peab builds middle school in Västerås

Peab has been commissioned to build a middle school for grades 7-9 in Irsta, Västerås. The customer is Västerås City and the contract is worth SEK 196 million.

Peab is going to build a new middle school with around 6,000 m2 in the city district Irsta in Västerås. The project includes tearing down the existing Irsta School in stages along with creating a new schoolyard that includes an artificial grass playing field.

This is the second stage in the new construction of Irsta School. The first stage comprising a new building for preschool to the sixth grade was completed in May 2020. During summer vacation the old P-6 school will be torn down and the new school (grades 7-9) will be built where it stood. This way students can continue to go to school in the same place. The old high school will be torn down later when the new one is finished.

Focus during construction is on the environment and the project will be certified according to Miljöbyggnad Silver.

The project is a turnkey contract. Construction start is planned for the summer of 2020 and is expected to be completely finished in 2023.

The project will be order registered in the first quarter 2020.

“We are really happy to build a new middle school that will be around for many generations yet to come. Peab has a lot of experience in building schools that we bring to this project, which means we can figure out the best solutions,” says Nils Staffansson, Region Manager Peab.
