Peab has been commissioned to rebuild Highway 40 between Nässjö and Eksjö. The customer is the Swedish Transport Administration and the contract is worth SEK 357 million.
A 14 kilometer stretch of the road between Nässjö and Eksjö will be rebuilt into a road with a center guardrail to improve traffic safety and passability. The current standard of the road is considered low for the amount of traffic on it. Around two kilometers of the highway between Vinkan and Rosa will be a new stretch of road and the rest of it will be broadened or rebuilt alongside the existing one. A number of overpasses will be built to further heighten traffic safety and passability.
“Naturally we’re really pleased to contribute to improving traffic safety and passability on this stretch of Highway 40 as well. We’re building for the future and everyday life where it’s lived, which is what we as the Nordic Community Builder do,” says Thomas Larsson, Product Manager Peab.
Rebuilding the road will also create good conditions for well-functioning pedestrian and bicycle paths between the towns along with accessible bus stops. In addition, the current game fence will be replaced with new fencing along the entire stretch of road and five new fauna passages will be created under the highway at Lövhult, Vinkan, Rosan, Vixensjöarna and Allmänningsån.
“We bring Sweden closer together by shortening the distance between people and business. At the same time we create the right conditions for all transportation and travel to take place on safe, secure and accessible roads,” says Mikael Hårrskog, Project Manager for the Swedish Transport Administration.
The project is a turnkey contract. Construction will begin in 2022 and is expected to be completed in 2025.
The project will be order registered in the first quarter 2022.
