Peab builds pilot platform facility for clean energy in Espoo

Peab has been commissioned to build a pilot platform facility for clean energy in Espoo. The customer is VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd. and the contract is worth EUR 19 million.

The project entails building an addition to the VTT Bioruukki pilot center and updating the existing building. The pilot center is an innovation platform for new bio-based products and circular economy solutions. Bioruukki is one of Europe’s largest pilot facilities with open access and a combination of pilot-scale process development units and R&D services.

The two story addition will house VTT’s research activities related to heavy vehicles, motors, hydrogen gas and batteries as well as support facilities for research. The building will be around 5,000 m2 gross area.

“We’re very pleased Peab has been entrusted with extending this pilot platform facility thereby promoting work on sustainable development,” says Ilkka Laakeristo, Region Manager Peab Finland.

The project will begin in March 2024 and is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2026.

The project will be order registered in the first quarter 2024.
