Peab builds Trollhättan's new waterworks

Peab has been commissioned to build Överby waterworks in Trollhättan. The customer is Trollhättan Energi AB and the contract is worth SEK 580 million.

At Överby in northern Trollhättan Peab and Trollhättan Energi will build a new, modern waterworks next to the existing waterworks. The current plant was commissioned in 1962 and provides more than 57,000 inhabitants with clean water. The new waterworks will play an important role in ensuring the future supply of drinking water. The project involves the construction of a new water treatment plant, including a process plant and staff facilities.

"We are proud to contribute to a reliable water supply for the residents of the area. At Peab we will use our combined expertise to deliver high-quality infrastructure that will serve the local community for many years to come. We look forward to working with Trollhättan Energi to carry out the project in an efficient, safe and sustainable manner," says Mattias Emanuelsson, Region Manager Peab.

Since 2018 Peab has been planning and designing the new waterworks in a phase 1 agreement with Trollhättan Energi in order to find an optimized product with the right quality and to manage risks and uncertainties. Work on site will begin with tree felling, re-routing of an existing pedestrian and bicycle path and the establishment of the construction area.

"A new waterworks will meet today's requirements for drinking water treatment. However, it is highly likely that the future will involve changed demands on drinking water production or changed conditions. The new waterworks is therefore prepared to grow. For example, there is the possibility of expandability in the form of space on the property around the plant, docking on additional preparation steps or increasing the capacity of functions, says Synnöve Holm, Water Unit Manager at Trollhättan Energi.

The waterworks is part of Trollhättan Energi's Water Package initiative – an investment package in four parts – which aims to ensure good drinking water for future generations as well. The project is now entering phase 2 and construction, which means that the construction contract has been signed.

The project is a collaborative turnkey contract with immediate start of construction and the facility is expected to be operational in 2030.

The project will be order registered in the fourth quarter 2024.
