Peab has been commissioned to modify Lunden School in Gothenburg. The customer is Gothenburg's City Property Administration and the contract is worth SEK 275 million.
Lunden School, which has 660 students from pre-school to the 9th grade and a special elementary school with 50 students, will undergo extensive changes in a total of eight main sections. Peab will build a new school building for grades 4-6, including a new cafeteria, a new library and a commercial kitchen.
The project also includes modifying the building for grades 7–9 and expanding the student café and offices. One building will be rebuilt for grades K-3 and another for the culture school's premises. All the existing buildings will undergo maintenance. The facades will be renovated and the windows replaced on two buildings.
"We're happy and proud to continue being a part of the community development of Gothenburg. We have extensive experience in building schools and look forward to start building together with Gothenburg's City Property Administration," says Stellan Haraldsson, Region Manager Peab.
The existing schoolyard will be rebuilt and adapted to suit various ages and the school will continue to function throughout the construction period, with evacuations in stages.
The buildings in the area, which were built between 1914 and 1946, are part of Gothenburg's conservation program. As a result the project is sharply focused on reusing both construction and installation parts in all buildings as well as the schoolyard.
The project is a turnkey contract. Planning and production will start immediately and the project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2027.
The project will be order registered in the first quarter 2025.
