Peab has been commissioned to complete the construction of the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg. The customer is Akademiska Hus and the contract is worth SEK 350 million.
A new building is being built in central Gothenburg for the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg that will enable the faculty to all gather at the same address. The new building will create more practical and modern learning environments for both staff and students. Peab has been commissioned to complete the project which comprises a 10,800 m2, eight story building with a basement. The building will have a new main entrance and contain two auditoriums, student services, a café, offices and student workplaces.
The new building will have an entrance connected to the future Haga Station in the West Link which will further integrate the School of Business, Economics and Law into the city's structure and improve commuting options for both students and staff.
"We look forward to starting this project together with Akademiska Hus. Since the school will run parallel to our work, we’ll have to deal with logistic challenges that put high demands on us as the contractor. Our experience of similar inner city projects will be valuable to this project," says Stellan Haraldsson, Region Manager Peab.
"The new building for the School of Business, Economics and Law will be a fantastic center of knowledge that will strengthen both research and education in the heart of Gothenburg. We’re pleased to be able to contribute to the University's development with a modern and sustainable building and look forward to having Peab as our partner in the completion of the project," says Ali Ranji, Project Director at Akademiska Hus.
Construction of the School of Business, Economics and Law is permeated with substantial sustainability work and carefully selected materials. For example, the marble floor from the older building will be reused in a footbridge in the new building.
The project is a turnkey contract in partnering. Work will begin immediately and the goal is for the project to be completed in 2027.
The project will be order registered in the first quarter 2025.
